How the AI Race Index and Slowdown Index are computed

AI Race Index

The AI Race Index measures how strongly the accelerators of the AI race are pushing, on a 0-3 scale. It is the weighted mean of three accelerator dimensions: Military Integration 40%, Centralization 30%, Economic Dependency 30%. Levels: NORMAL below 1.5, CAUTION from 1.5, DANGER from 2.4.

AI Slowdown Index

The AI Slowdown Index measures how strongly the brakes are holding, on the same 0-3 scale. It is the weighted mean of four brake dimensions: Model Governance 35%, Compute Control 25%, International Cooperation 25%, Public Narrative 15%.

From news to scores

Each dimension is scored 0-3 from the news events of the last 90 days. Recent news weighs more: an event counts half after 21 days. Thin evidence stays near the neutral value of 1.5. When the gap between the two indices is below 0.25 the status is Balanced.
